Familiar, Rewritten
Deer Run Expansion sits in a typical suburban neighborhood in West Greenwich. The goal was to create a new primary suite so the family’s children could each have their own bedrooms. The homeowners wanted to bring a touch of European “flat” styling to the design. This modern addition breaks the neighborhood's norm while still staying in character with the Joneses.
The solution was to remove the existing garage roof and build the suite above it. The addition includes a primary bedroom, sitting room, walk-in dressing room, and a spa-like bath. The exterior uses traditional materials in a bold, contemporary way. Painting the black siding and trim simplifies the front façade's color palette and helps the new work sit confidently alongside the existing house. At the rear, thermally modified Douglas Fir siding adds warmth and texture to what had been a typical garage elevation. Inside, warm tones, crisp contrasts, and refined materials give the suite a modern, boutique-hotel feel while still keeping in character with the neighborhood.
